I think the average person doesn't have a clue about the history of the region. All they know is "Israel took Palestinian land and is now building settlements on it." The fact is, the Oslo Agreements never said anything about settlements; the issue was to be addressed during final status talks. Obama created preconditions when there were none. Now that Abbas has unilaterally gone to the UN and requested statehood, disregarding what has been previously agreed upon, Oslo should be considered officially null and void. What's the sense in making agreements with people who won't abide by them?

The Fatah activists who are threatening Palestinian teenagers for talking to Israelis and playing football with them are the same people who claim, at least in public, that they support the peace process with Israel. But how can there ever be a peace process when anyone who meets with an Israeli is immediately denounced as a traitor?
