Political Islam is a threat to Islamic faith too

Reader comment on: Political Islam Threat to Diversity?

The writer presented a historical, cultural, and religious exposé on which he forewarned of a threat to cultural diversity of the Egyptian society. In fact, that threat has been working against diversity over centuries in nearly all countries, dominated by Islamic imperial powers, including Egypt. While Egypt miraculously preserved its diversity to some meager extent, others (like those in North Africa, for example) have been culturally Islamized and Arabized to the core. Political Islam, or Islam in politics, as history and present confirmed, has been the means of power struggle in Islamic societies. Non-Muslims in this perennial Islamic struggle for power among Muslim contenders have always been the victims most severely affected.

In today's world after 9/11 and the mass migration from the Muslim lands to Western countries, amidst the continued war against Islamic terrorism, the threat posed has taken a global dimension. Another factor in changing the nature and the effect of the" threat" in question is the recent waves of revolts sweeping the Arab Muslim world, propelled by poverty and the pursuit for freedom, justice, and dignity. Here lies the threat to the Islamic belief system itself, as political Islam will resort to force to rule, and here Muslims too will face another form of despotism, but an Islamic one based on Sharia.
