The people of Holland must remake their democracy, before it's too late.

Freedom of speech is central to our way of life. Not just in Holland where this latest atrocity has been committed nor in the UK mother of Parliamentary democracies. Not simply in the European Union, North America, Australasia, Israel or South Africa where countless thousands have died in the name of freedom. It is central to the democratic way of life for the entire free world! From Albania to Vanuatu and all countries in between with aspirations to democratic government.
There may indeed be a need for redress of grievances where slanderous untruths are concerned. There may even be a weak case for limiting speech regarding discrimination on racial, sexual or religious disharmony after the fact. But never limits to truthful warnings by politicians, when they are defending the very principles of freedom we all hold dear. Central to the process is the concept of Parliamentary Privilege. Quite simply the freedom to tell the people truths they do not want to hear, without fear of retribution. If elected politicians cannot tell the truth distasteful or not, then who can?
I do not care what Dutch MP Mr Geert Wilders said. I happen to agree with him but that is irrelevant to the more important fundamental principle of democracy at stake. "If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter." ― George Washington
This should be a frightening wake-up call for all right minded people. Perhaps even a call to arms for the able and willing. Please forgive another quotation from a US President but I cannot improve on his wise words. Take heed:
Harry Truman wrote; "Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear."
