Reader comment on: Greece: A Democracy in Crisis

Submitted by Barbara Brooks, Mar 16, 2017 15:49

The EU failed to exercise due diligence by not inspecting Greek finances properly before admitting it to the EU and then failed to put pressure on Greece to protect the pensions of the oldest citizens when making cuts. Greece really has no option but to rebel against the EU. The EU never had the authority to do an outside audit to stop the rampant corruption, yet still demanded debt repayment. If it has simply audited for tax evasion, then there would have been no debt crisis! However, at this point there is no option but to leave and trying to weaken the corrupt factions of society.
