Freedom of speech can have no exceptions
Reader comment on: Sweden: Hate Speech Just for Imams

This concept of speech being banned because it "offends" certain people or criticises a religion or life style is wrong, no matter who says it. Free speech means being able to make remarks that "offend" those who do not share ones views. If this was not the case freedom of speech would be useless, it would mean just allowing speech that everyone agrees with. Banning freedom to express an opinion is tantamount to banning thought, or creating "thought crime". A thought or opinion or idea that cannot be legally expressed is to all practical purposes useless. This totalitarian mind set must be challenged, even if it does give some obnoxious people the right to air obnoxious views.
