Khaled Abu Toameh Distinguished Senior Fellow, Gatestone Institute
Khaled Abu Toameh, an Arab Muslim, is a veteran award-winning journalist and TV producer who has been covering Palestinian affairs since 1985.
He studied at Hebrew University and began his career as a translator and reporter for a Palestinian newspaper in Jerusalem.
For more than three decades, Abu Toameh worked for the international media, serving as the 'eyes and ears' of many foreign journalists in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. He has worked as a producer for several TV stations, including Denmark's TV2 and Sweden's SVT.
Between 1991 and 2000, Abu Toameh worked as a Palestinian Affairs Correspondent for US News & World Report.
Between 2001 and 2023 he worked as Palestinian Affairs Correspondent for The Jerusalem Post.
Abu Toameh worked as a senior producer and consultant for NBC News from 1988 to 2015.
In 1994, he received the Edward M. Hood Award for Diplomatic Correspondence (First Place) from the National Press Club in Washington for his investigative reporting at US News & World Report.
In 1999 and 2000, Abu Toameh received the Common Ground Awards for Journalism in the Middle East for Building Bridges of Understanding from Search for Common Ground.
In 2010, Abu Toameh received the Israel Media Watch Award for Media Criticism.
He received the Emet Award (2013) from the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America. It was presented to him "in recognition of his courageous and insightful reporting on Palestinian and Israeli affairs."
In 2014, he was awarded the Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and Integrity in Journalism by the Los Angeles Press Club.
In 2018, Abu Toameh received the Speaker of Truth Award from the Endowment for Middle East Truth.
He is a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Gatestone Institute.
